W 110 schiebedach bremsstange (but I'm not sure that is correct deutsche)

hello everybody.

Here is my first request.

But I have to ask your pardon if I've mistaken the deutsche in the subject.

In my w110 200d, I've an unoriginal brake rod for the sliding roof. It is in fact hand maded, and non working properly.

Because the roof doesn't close completely and firmly, some drops of water fall inside.

I've tried to set the closing sistem, but I've had some problem.

Now the project plans to replace the rods (maybe with a better, handmade rod) but I'd need some pictures of the original and, in case that someone could have a good heart, all the measures...

Hello Claudio,

Moin Lutz,

ich verstehe das so, dass bei Claudio die Bremsstangen ( brake rod) Pos. 16 von Hand gemacht sind, also nix Original.

Die Bremsstangen (heißen wirklich so) haben die Nr. 110 780 0576 + 110 780 0676.

Funktion:

- die Rollen (gelber Pfeil 110 780 0126) drücken beim Schließen des Schiebedaches nach aussen und Schiebedach bewegt sich noch oben.

- Blechlaschen ( blauer Pfeil) drücken gegen den Kunststoffkeil und somit das Schiebedach nach vorne gegen die Dichtung

ans in all other Positions the littel Rubberweels Brake in Frame by turnig the Handle in Close Position.

The question is: are there any rubberrolls at all on the ends of Claudios handmade brake rods? If not, there is nothing what brakes or lifts the the roof in any position...

I'va added a second nut hoping that it could push forward the roof, but no way.

I've added a piece of teflon to the slide that push up the roof, and it works, but the roof is still no going forward.

And that's why I'm asking you...

The measures of the rod could help for a new construction more similar to the original.

To be honest the old owner it's been really fanciful to use a sliding rod of a drawer and a nut...

you have two options on how to proceed now. Do it right or let it go.

Please don't try to repair your parts.

You need the original parts!

Hi Claudio,

here are some pics of the rods I took today. Hope it helps you a little bit. They are not so simple construtced...

I also recommend to get yourself a set of used parts. Try to find someone who offers parts from a donor car, or a comlete cut-out sunroof. Sometimes these are offered onm ebay.

Or you contact that guy linked here: Bruno Wenner. He has lots of used parts, am I´m quite optimistic that he has these rods you need, because I bought some sunroof-parts from him two years ago.

I agree that couldn't be easy to reproduce the original, but I've to xplain you 2 things about me...

1 I've lived my youngness in Genoa... people there, are the same like scottish, and that's why I '"take reallly care" about my money

2 I' a sort of extremist abuot the do it yourself. So I like and everytime I try to do evrything by miself

Now... could be very helpful if you'd send me the measures abot the wheels and the spacers that provide to press forward the roof...

I can understand that you want to do yourself as much as possible. I do so, too. If it makes sense.

Because my free time for doing hobby-things is very short...

These brake rods will cost around 10-20€ (+ shipping) in useable used condition. So it will save nothing to construct them by yourself, and therefore even your DIY-pride would not be injured...

My opinion.

I can try to give you more measures, but it will take a few days, because as said, my time for doing such things is limited.

So 60€ for all, and ready for assembling.

No question, from my point of view... and I´m not Rockefeller...

You won´t find that cheaper on ebay, I guess. By the way, I think these rods should be the same (or easily to adapt) from all manual sunroofs of the models W110, W111, W112, W114, W115, W123. Have a look at your local junkyards.... but sunroofs are a quite rare option on italian cars, aren´t they?

I´ll try to get the measures you asked for, next weekend. Meanwhile it does hopefully not rain so much in Italy...

Note that the rubber-roll has a core of brass, with a 2mm thick rubber layer. And it is not cylindrical but barrel-shaped.

After a working summer, I've now the time to play with the w110 restoring.

I'm now working on the previous problem, but I'm asking now something new....

May someone please send me a pic abuot the underdash cover? I haven't one and I'm currently imagine how it could be an how it could be attached to the firewall.

...I'm not perfectly sure how it's been done on the W110, but you might also be looking for these spring clips used to attach the cover to the dashboard - available in grey or black:

I don't have a W110 any longer, so I can't provide a photo of the cover parts when mounted underneath the dashboard - but perhaps somebody else can?

Btw:

...in this thread, there are some photo of a W111 sedan - should be same as on your W110 I guess (scroll down):

-> On that car the cover is held by sheet metal tabs - plus potentially by one screw (on the photos hidden by the carpet)?
